I think that was a very respectful and fair assessment. I was looking for a current review of the Omas Paragon Fountain Pen in Blue Saffron. I realized after I watched your review of the Omas Paragon that the video was 9 years old and that pen was produced by Omas (Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni). Out of curiosity, I pulled the Omas trademark registration. They are not alleging rights to the mark any more recently than February 10, 2023 in their trademark application. The mark is owned by Unibrands Corporation, which has offices in New York, but is a New Jersey Corporation Incorporated on June 21, 2021. This is not the same company that owns Uniball. I am not saying they are trying to blur the lines, but I think they are playing with fire here. Not having access to all of the information, so this is by no means an opinion, but I am uncomfortable with this Omas trying to draw their roots to the Omas (Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni) founded in 1925 as they do on their website.

The problem with Italian pen manufacturers has always been prices, they make good pens but they overcharge a lot, the good thing is that you can usually found them a couple of months later at a considerable discount, I got an Infrangibile for 98 euros a couple days ago, great pen by all accounts but, as you said, there is nothing that justifies the price.

I'll tell you what they have to improve, PRICES! Fountain pens have become unreasonably expensive in every way, I've seen a Lamy 2k for 400 euros! These things could be found for 100 euros 5 years ago.

Stephen, I enjoy your review videos for the information you share but I enjoy very much your talking videos because of their candor and insight that in the end help us all in being more balances in judgement. Keep it up.

I have this very pen, in frosty steel but in EF. Regardless of my other fine pens, this one is a sleeper, just about the best writer. It is also gorgeous.

Thanks for this one. I’m still thinking the Soubriquet is the one for me. I am still wondering if the user can purchase both the Zebra nib and the conventional nib and swap back and forth as needed, or if you are locked into one or the other at time of purchase.

Hey sbrebrown, how does the Edison pens that are made to order compare to those off the "production" line? An Edison Menlo is what revived my joy of penmanship physical writing after having done calligraphy ages ago. I wouldn't say I've outgrown it but I've refined what I'm looking for in a fountain pen from years ago. I wouldn't mind a reason to take another look at what Edison has to offer on a custom basis. To anyone that's bored reading youtube comments. A novice? question. Also, I acknowledge this is likely some user error on my end. A little elucidation would be wonderful. Anyone else have a slight hiccup of having to prime pens that rely on a vacuum system? Occasionally I'll need to prime my pens that have a vacuum system after they've expended a 1/3 or half their ink. Almost like the draw from the vacuum itself inhibits ink from naturally flowing with capillary action. I'll have to dip the nib in ink to get it running again or fiddle with the filling system to equalize the negative space that's now occupied by air in the reservoir of the pen. Vintage pens with sacs don't typically give me this issue, like Sheaffer's or Mabie Todd. Maybe it's a time thing? Constantly writing around the hour and a half mark it seems as though my pen will decide it needs a rest and I"ll fiddle with it in the ways I've mentioned above. Once the breather hole has a jolt of liquid introduced to it life is grand again and it's work strike is at an end. Ink and paper are eliminated as factors. Pelikan inks, Waterman inks, Herbin to a slew of off brand third party emulsions all result in similar experiences writing on Rhodia or Clairefontaine. Worth noting? Whatever I'm doing with Pilots, Edison's, Watermans, Conklins aren't a problem with Montblanc Meisterstuck or more price conscious pens like TWSBI or Monteverde. I'm fully willing to examine my own faults and idiocy that may be the faults of how I'm writing or the climate conditions at play. Just wondering if this is a common experience or I have a poltergeist infesting my pen nibs as they witness the horrid cacophony of vile bile that's being penned by my pens.

I think that Mango ink shows off the shading abilities of the nibs quite nicely. I don’t think you need to apologise for it at all. I like the amber tones of both pens. I don’t have a Desiderata (yet), but I have several Edisons and they are all a joy to use. Both those pens have a lot to offer and I’m glad you don’t have to choose between them.

The smoothest threads I have ever experienced were on pens made by Braxton of Divine Pens Plus in Palm Bay, Florida. He also makes the Fordite pens.

My experience is the smaller manufactures pay more attention to detail and will go out of their way to may their customers happy. I find significant value in this personal attention and am therefore willing to pay a premium for "boutique" pens.

I have a Conid Regular in red acrylic "Antwerppen" - which I love. It is just an epitome of perfection - quality, reliability, balance in my hand. The main difference for me was an option for nib grind - M-Stub tuned so perfectly as if the person doing it has been reading my mind. Thus any other pen with no option for special grinds loses before the competition starts. I know it is expensive, but it is a rare case where I see where the money went. Kyuseido filling system looks suspiciously similar to the one from PenBBS 355, but I do not own one so cannot confirm 100%. If there is option for other materials - I am not a big fan of metal sections - it seems to be a great pen.

I bought this pen and I want to use cartridges to refill, I don't know what diameter measurements or other parameters I should consider when buying the cartridges, can you help me?

You made a lot of good points. I find myself self, on a regular basis, reevaluating why I make my pen reviews, and the manner in which I make them. An honest but humble review is what I want to shoot for. Your channel often comes to mind when I've had to evaluate if pazzaz is even necessary. I'm growing more to embrace the more direct, honest, and simple approach. As sergeant Friday used to say. "Just the facts, ma'am."

The black version of this pen with the contrast gold nib is very nice.

It's a nice match! I matched mine with a brown called SBRE Brown and somehow that matches the orange/ gold swirls pretty good. I think you would like it as well.

Thank you, Dr. Brown, for the excellent review. Gorgeous pen, indeed. I have resisted matching inks with pens telling myself that it’s all just writing. But recently I find myself matching them almost as if being attracted by a magnet. Go figure. I want to thank you for your review some time ago of the Jinhao 9019 that didn’t write. It seems your chastisement caused them to start some quality control. Saw another, more recent review of their “Heartbeat” nib wherein the reviewer had drawn some water into it and found the water slightly blue. Seems someone had actually tested it. Bought one (M) to have another larger diameter pen that I could take out of the house with no worries. Mine also showed some blue. It writes very well! I wrote several pages alternating between it and my Pelikan M 800 (B) with identical ink in each. Now, it is NOT the Pelikan, but was pleasant to use and put down ink well and kept doing it. On behalf of the pen community (and probably also for Jinhao), thank you. You always make this community better, and I’m saying this is a measureable iimprovement. Strong work!

I'm a bit over the colours and artistic design variations, it's just another pen in a colourful body. I'm not discounting the effort that goes into making these works of art, but it seems the industry has lost it's innovation on the actual technical function of a pen which is writing. I want better performing nibs, feeds, ink reservoirs, etc., etc. otherwise they all look the same to me and I can't get excited. Sorry for the negativity.

I've been a big fan of your videos ever since I started getting obsessed with fountain pens again several years ago, and I love the fact that they're in your particular style and format. I'd be terrible at making this sort of video... I'm terrible at talking, and if I had to make a video in a single take, it would be such a mess that nobody would be able to tolerate it. It's wonderful that we can all create videos that fit our different strengths and add to the community in our own ways. I love how thoughtful your videos are... they're a very nice break from the more common "look at this shiny object" videos (which I also enjoy). Hope you keep making these videos for another dozen years.
